Support

Email filmalyst.support@gmail.com with any question, problem or privacy request. There is no support form, no chatbot and no phone line — just that address, read by Ayomide Adeyanju.

We aim to respond as soon as reasonably possible, but no particular response time is guaranteed. Telling us your device model, iOS version and what you were doing when something went wrong will usually save a round trip.

Signing in

Filmalyst has no passwords. You enter your email address and it sends a six-digit code that you type back into the app.

The code has not arrived

  1. Give it a minute — delivery is usually quick but not instant.
  2. Check your spam or junk folder, and any "Promotions" or filtered tab. This is by far the most common cause.
  3. Check the address you typed for a typo.
  4. Go back and request a new code. Each new code replaces the previous one, so always use the most recent email.
  5. If you see a message asking you to wait, please do — requesting repeatedly in quick succession triggers a short cooling-off period and will slow you down rather than speed you up.

The code is not accepted

Still stuck? Email filmalyst.support@gmail.com from the address you are trying to sign in with, and say roughly when you requested the code.

Where your film history lives

On this device, in this release

Your ratings, watchlist, viewing history and everything an import brings in are stored on the device you created them on. Your account, profile and Taste Identity records are kept with your Filmalyst account and come back when you sign in again; your film history does not travel with them.

In practice that means three things worth knowing before you rely on it:

  • Your history will not appear on a second device, even signed in as you.
  • Removing the app takes the history with it.
  • Keep the ZIP Letterboxd sent you. Until you have exported again, it is the only other copy of an imported library.

Importing from Letterboxd

Filmalyst can read a Letterboxd export to bring your viewing history in.

  1. Sign in to Letterboxd in a browser and request your data export. Letterboxd emails you a ZIP file.
  2. Save that ZIP to your device — Files, Downloads or iCloud Drive.
  3. In Filmalyst, open your account settings, then Data & Imports, and choose the ZIP.

Filmalyst never asks for your Letterboxd password

It reads a file you exported yourself. There is no Letterboxd login, no connected account and no ongoing synchronisation. If anything ever asks you for a Letterboxd password in Filmalyst’s name, it is not us — please report it.

The ZIP is processed on your device and the complete file is not uploaded. In this release the imported history is kept on that device. See the Privacy Policy.

Some films did not match

Not every entry can be matched automatically — remakes, re-releases, alternative titles and very obscure films are the usual causes. Filmalyst keeps those entries rather than silently dropping them, so you can confirm the right film later. Both the unresolved entries and your confirmations are held on the device where the import ran, so review them there.

The import stopped part-way

A large library is applied in stages. Reopen the app on the same device and it will pick up where it left off.

Keep the original ZIP until you have confirmed the import finished, and avoid removing the app before then — a part-finished import lives on that device and nowhere else, so the export is what lets you start again.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself, in the app — you do not need to email anyone.

  1. Open Filmalyst and go to your account settings.
  2. Choose Delete account.
  3. Read the confirmation, then confirm.

Deleting your account removes your Filmalyst account and its sign-in, your profile and display name, the Taste Identity and persona records held with your account, and the film ratings and signals, watchlist, viewing history, import records, source mappings and unresolved import entries held on your device — together with any other account-scoped Filmalyst data.

Deletion cannot normally be undone. Information that has to be kept to meet a legal requirement may be retained where that applies, though no such retention category is currently identified for ordinary Filmalyst account data. The general film catalogue — titles, release years, posters and similar — is not owned by any account and is not removed by deleting one; it contains nothing personal. Service providers keep their own operational records, such as request logs, under their own retention policies, and those are not erased by this request.

Note that deleting the app from your phone is not the same thing: uninstalling removes the history stored on that device, but your Filmalyst sign-in account remains until it is deleted.

If deletion fails repeatedly, email filmalyst.support@gmail.com from your account address and we will deal with it directly.

Privacy requests

To request access to your information, a correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or to object to processing, email filmalyst.support@gmail.com from the address registered to your account, and say which right you are exercising. Verification may be needed before information is released — that protects you, not us. Your rights, and how to complain to the ICO, are set out in the Privacy Policy.

Reporting incorrect film information

Film titles, years, posters, cast and synopses come from TMDB, a community-maintained database. Filmalyst does not author them and cannot correct them directly.

Other troubleshooting

For App Review

Reviewers: Filmalyst uses passwordless email sign-in, so a fixed username and password pair does not exist. A demo account and a way to receive its one-time codes are supplied with the submission in App Store Connect’s review notes. If those details are missing, unclear or have expired, email filmalyst.support@gmail.com and replacements will be provided directly — credentials are never published on this page.

Account deletion is available in the app under account settings, as required by App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(v), and is described above.
