Terms of Use

Effective 6 August 2026 · Last updated 6 August 2026

These terms govern your use of the Filmalyst app and this website. Section 2 explains what you are agreeing to and when. If you do not agree, please do not create an account.

1. Who provides Filmalyst

Filmalyst is provided by Ayomide Adeyanju, trading as Filmalyst — an individual trading under that name, not a registered company. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Ayomide Adeyanju, and "you" means the person using the service.

2. Accepting these terms

Reading this website commits you to very little. It is information: these pages, the Privacy Policy and the support guidance are published for you to read, and browsing them does not create an account or an agreement about the app.

Creating a Filmalyst account is different, and is the point at which these terms are accepted. The account-creation step asks you to acknowledge these terms and the Privacy Policy, and to confirm that you are at least 16 years old. Continuing through that step is what records your acceptance and that confirmation. If you would rather not agree, do not complete it — nothing else on this site depends on your doing so.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create a Filmalyst account. Confirming this at the account-creation step is a condition of having one, and an account may be closed if that confirmation turns out to be untrue.

4. Your account

Filmalyst uses passwordless sign-in: you enter your email address and receive a one-time code. There is no password to set or remember.

Because access depends on your email account, please take reasonable steps to keep that email account secure — anyone who can read your inbox can request a code and sign in as you.

You are responsible for activity on your account where it results from a failure to take those reasonable steps. You are not responsible for activity that results from our failing to use reasonable care and skill, or from circumstances you could not reasonably have controlled. Tell us promptly at filmalyst.support@gmail.com if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else, and we will help you secure it.

5. Permitted use

Filmalyst is for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may use it to discover films and to keep a record of your own viewing.

6. What you must not do

This list does not restrict accessible use

Nothing above prohibits your use of accessibility tools or assistive technology — a screen reader, a switch control, voice control, a magnifier or anything comparable — or your use of ordinary functionality provided by your operating system, or anything applicable law expressly permits. If an accessibility tool you rely on does not work with Filmalyst, that is a fault worth telling us about, not a breach of these terms.

7. Importing your viewing history

Filmalyst can read a Letterboxd export that you download and select. You are responsible for ensuring you are entitled to use that file — in the ordinary case it is your own account’s export of your own data.

The file is processed on your device and is not uploaded in full. In this release the history read out of it is kept on that device rather than in your Filmalyst account; what that means in practice is set out in the Privacy Policy. Filmalyst does not ask for and does not hold a Letterboxd password, and does not connect to a Letterboxd account.

8. Recommendations

Recommendations are personalised suggestions, not guarantees. They are produced automatically from the signals you give and reflect what the app infers about your taste. Filmalyst does not promise that you will enjoy a recommended film, that a recommendation is suitable for you or anyone else, or that its reasoning is correct.

Age ratings, content descriptions and similar information come from third parties and should not be relied on as complete or authoritative.

9. Film information and availability

Film details, artwork and availability information come from third-party sources, principally TMDB. That information may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and may change without notice. Filmalyst does not control it and does not warrant its accuracy.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

10. Third-party links and services

Filmalyst may link to third-party sites and services — a trailer, a streaming provider’s page, or Letterboxd’s export page. Those are outside our control and are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or their practices.

11. Intellectual property

The Filmalyst software, the Filmalyst name and branding, the written editorial content and the original design and presentation of the app and this website belong to Ayomide Adeyanju or are used under licence. You may not copy, adapt or redistribute them except as applicable law allows.

What we do not own

Film metadata, posters, stills, trailers and other film material belong to their respective owners — studios, distributors, TMDB contributors and others. Data from a Letterboxd export belongs to you and to Letterboxd as applicable. Ayomide Adeyanju claims no ownership of any of it; it is displayed within Filmalyst as permitted by the relevant sources and rights holders.

12. Suspension, termination and deletion

We may suspend or terminate access to an account that is being used in breach of these terms — in particular for abuse, automated access, interference with the service, or unlawful use. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you why.

You may delete your account at any time from within the app, in account settings. Deleting your account removes your Filmalyst account and its sign-in, your profile and display name, the Taste Identity and persona records held with your account, and the film ratings and signals, watchlist, viewing history, import records, source mappings and unresolved import entries held on your device — together with any other account-scoped Filmalyst data.

Deletion cannot normally be undone. Information that has to be kept to meet a legal requirement may be retained where that applies, though no such retention category is currently identified for ordinary Filmalyst account data. The general film catalogue — titles, release years, posters and similar — is not owned by any account and is not removed by deleting one; it contains nothing personal. Service providers keep their own operational records, such as request logs, under their own retention policies, and those are not erased by this request.

13. Changes and availability

Filmalyst is offered as it is and is actively developed. Features may be added, changed or withdrawn, and the service may be unavailable from time to time — for maintenance, because of a fault, or because a third-party service it depends on is unavailable. No particular level of availability is promised.

These terms may change. The dates at the top of this page will be revised, and material changes will be brought to your attention where appropriate.

14. This release is free

Filmalyst is provided free of charge in this release. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase and no payment, which is why these terms contain no billing, payment or refund provisions. If that ever changes, terms covering it will be added and you will be told before any charge could apply to you.

15. Your rights, and what we are responsible for

If you are a consumer, you have statutory rights that these terms do not affect. Nothing here reduces your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or under any other applicable consumer protection law, and nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows: we will provide Filmalyst with reasonable care and skill, but we do not promise that it will suit every purpose you have in mind, that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the film information it displays is accurate or complete.

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or of our failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable, nor for the acts or content of third parties.

16. Apple

These terms are between you and Ayomide Adeyanju only. Apple is not a party to them, and nothing here means Apple endorses, certifies or is otherwise associated with Filmalyst.

17. Governing law

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and are subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence.
